3.3 WOODS DESPATCH, 1854

Till 1853, the authorities were not clear about the education of Indians but later on it was felt that education of Indians would be of great help to the Britishers. This thinking led to the emanation of the famous Despatch of 1854 from Charles Wood, the President of Board of Control. He came to India, consulted Lord Dalhousie, went back and despatched recommendations from England and that is why this document is known as Wood's Despatch and not Wood Report or Wood Committee Report.
