Scheme of Studies:

The Committee recommended that both the PTC and CT courses should be of 48 weeks duration on a non-vacational basis. There will be a minimum of 33 weeks hours in a week, equally distributed on the subjects being offered during a semestes. A typical week will be divided onto 45 periods of 45 minutes each with a recess of 30 minutes daily. A semester system of education was recommended. The structure of the course was proposed as follows:-

e. Examination and Practice 01 Weeks

f. Long-Term Teaching Practice 05 Weeks

A. P.T.C. Course:


This programme is offered to in-service and untrained teachers with a view to produce required number of trained teachers to meet the needs of country’s teaching at primary ope level. The courses of this programm omprise psychology of education, organization of school, teaching methods at primary level and teaching practice.


Secondary School Certificate (Matric) from any recognized institution Is the condition fro admission, in- services school teachers will be preferred.


Introducing innovation in teaching at primary level through distance education system, updating teachers training in the light of latest knowledge.

B. C.T. Course:


It is an under-graduate level teacher training programme for school teachers. The entire programme covers all the related teaching theories, methods and teaching practices. The courses to the programme are designed to update the knowledge of serving teachers in subject contents and teaching methodology.


Intermediate from any recognized institution. In-service school teachers are preferred.


The main focus of the programme is to provide an opportunity for in-service untrained and semi-trained teachers of middle schools. This programme also introduces innovations in teaching at middle level through distance education system and updating teachers knowledge and skills in the light of latest curricula and trends.

System of Evaluation:

An internal system of evaluation of the theory papers undertaken during a semester has been recommended. The final evaluation of practical teaching is made jointly by the head of the institution or his nominee and two external examiners. The PTC/CT certificates are awarded by the respective Provincial Education Department on the recommendation of the training institution.


The institutions preparing secondary school teachers are known as College of Education and those making available advanced training by awarding M.A. Edu. / M. Ed. degrees are called Institutes of Education and Research and are usually affiliated to the universities. These institutions, for the professional training of teachers, bear a direct relation between
the educational changes and the role of teachers. The respective courses of studies reflect this and generally include the following elements in them:

  • Guidance and Counselling
  • Testing and Measurement
  • Sociology of Education
  • Educational Psychology
  • Child Development
  • Anthropology and the like subjects

Secondary School Teacher Education Curriculum has been revised by the National Committee of Experts. The revised curriculum had been introduced w.e.f. September 1976. innovations like the semester system, non-vocational training of teachers, introduction of agro-technical subjects and 3-Year B. Ed. training programme have been recommended in the revised B. Ed. Programme. It is expected that this programme will produce better teachers. New scheme of studies for B. Ed. Programme is as under:
